Driving up the mountain range of Arachnaio is a great experience by itself. But then we first visit the New Talantio Monastery. When in 1761 the local Turkish Aga demanded taxes from the monks living in the Old Talantiou Monastery they built a new monastery not very far away. The photo above left shows the bell-tower with an incorporated old column. The colorful frescoes in the chapel can thus not be earlier than 18th century - and I even assume them to be 20th century. Still, the man who showed us around claimed a date of origin centuries earlier. |
